Southern Spicy Gingerbread from Ann Adams

3/4 shortening, melted
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 molasses
2 eggs

2 1/2 cups flour
2 tsps baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tsps ginger
1 1/2 tsps cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp nutmeg

1 cup boiling water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
(Grease and flour an appropriate sized pan.  The pan wasn't given, but I'll guess either a square pan, or a tube pan.  My mother used one that looked a jello mold.  MW)
Cream the shortening and sugar.
Add the molasses and then the eggs.
Sift together the dry ingredients.
Add alternatively to the wet mixture with the boiling water.
Pour into the chosen pan, and bake for 30-40 minutes.
