Banana Tea Bread from Joan Jensen

1/3 cup shortening (I use oil)
2/3 cup sugar
2 eggs
2-3 ripe bananas, mashed
1 3/4 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbl lemon juice
1 cup dates, chopped
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Sift together the dry ingredients.
Cream the shortening and the sugar.
Add eggs and beat well.
Stir the lemon juice into the mashed bananas.
Slowly add flour mixture, alternating with bananas.
Stir in the dates and nuts.
Pour into greased loaf pan.
Bake 1 hour, or until cake tester comes out clean.

This could also be baked in a bundt pan, or two smaller loaf pans,
